  1. Ed Augustyn called the meeting to order at 11:45 and welcomed all present.
  2. Announcements:

3. Agenda

(a) Augustyn/Johannson - That the agenda be adopted, as distributed.     Carried.

(b) Augustyn/Johannson - That the minutes of December 10th, 2008 be adopted. as

     distributed.   Carried.

       5. 12:45 – The meeting resumed, with thanks to the kitchen and serving staff.

6. Treasurer’s Report

 Liz Holme advised there was a balance of $1,649.10 in the chequing account. There is also a term deposit of $1,152.13. The $1000 scholarship has not yet been paid. Augustyn/ Johannson - Moved that the Treasurer’s Report be adopted as presented.   Carried.

8. Reports of Committees:

SUNSHINE: Gerry Galey advised that many contacts must remain confidential in order to respect members’ privacy. Please inform him of anyone who might appreciate a visit or phone call, or anyone who has suffered a bereavement or serious illness.

The Roast to honour Don Machan at the Civic Centre on February 14 was well attended. Don warmly  appreciated the recognition.

MEMBERSHIP: Liz Holme reported a current membership of 187.

The door prizes were won by Aviva Fox, Evelyn Miller, Josie Zbitnew, and Catherine Hudson.

COMMUNICATIONS: Judy Devereaux tendered thanks to her faithful  phone crew.

HERITAGE: Sharon Cox-Gustavson reported on activities centring around Coombs School.

PROGRAMME: Kay Howard reminded all of the BBQ on June 16th at Rotary Park.

BCRTA Report: Bob Taverner advised that criminal records checks are a hot issue. The College is opposed but must comply. There is no charge for these checks.

The pension fund will continue as it is at present, but the inflation adjustment account is in some difficulty. It is likely that the extended health benefits will soon have to be paid by us to ensure the safety of the COLA.

There are several vacancies on the BCRTA Executive. Anyone wishing details, or to nominate a candidate, should e-mail Val Dyer at tvdyer@shaw.ca

Our after lunch guest speaker was Cpl. Gary Cox who gave a most interesting, informative talk on Identity Theft.
