PQRTA  General Meeting Agenda

Val Dyer called the meeting to order at 11:40 and welcomed all present.

Announcements

*Don McCann sent greetings and best wishes to the group.

**Members should inform themselves of the information in the pension communications earlier this week.

***Anyone wishing a copy of the PQRTA Constitution & Bylaws and the Policies & Procedures was asked to sign the form at the registration desk

****Retired teachers are urgently needed to serve as tutors. Please call Laura Bonnor at the Parksville Career Center 250-248-3205 if you can help

1. Irene Mitchell/Kay Howard  That the agenda be adopted as distributed   Carried

2. Bob Taverner/Kay Howard  That the minutes of September 2, 2008 be adopted as distributed   Carried

3. Treasurer’s Report  There is currently $1147.13 in the chequing account and a further $1105.14 in a G.I.C. Approximately $1700 in dues is coming from the provincial R.T.A.

4. Business Arising from the Minutes:- None

12:00 – 12:45 Smorgasbord Lunch

Meeting resumed with a round of applause for the caterer, Spice of Life  and the serving staff. Thanks to Kay and Laurel for arranging a most enjoyable lunch!

5.Reports of Committees

a. Sunshine : Gerry Galey – nil report

b. Membership: Liz Holme introduced two new members, Jim Swanson and Quita Peverly. There are currently 187 members. Liz created a beautiful fall centerpiece which was won by Barbara Luper. The 50/50 prize, $38.50, was won by Gerry Galey.

c. Communications : Judy Devereaux – nil report

d. Historian : Barb Brett: The albums are up-to-date and ready for your perusal.

e. Heritage : Sharon Cox-Gustavson – absent

f. Programme : Kay/ Laurel  As previously reported, the Christmas Luncheon will be held at the Bayside on Dec. 10.  The February luncheon will be held at the Memorial Golf Club. The date for the latter is not yet certain; we hope to have George Greenwood speak on Identity Theft.

6. New Business

a. Liz Holme/Barb Brett That the 2009 PQRTA Scholarship be set at $1000.00    Carried

b. Joan deJong / Donna McAskile  That amendments to the PQRTA Constitution and By-Laws may only be made by a General Meeting of the branch, require ten days’ notice be given to the membership, and must receive at least 66% of the valid votes cast at the General Meeting     Carried

c. Bob Taverner/Kay Howard   That the Treasurer shall submit a proposed budget to the first regular meeting of the Executive Committee following the A.G.M.    Carried

d.Gerry Galey/Laurel Johannson  That requests for fund-raising at PQRTA functions, other than for PQRTA-sponsored activities, be denied     Carried

7. Reports  Kay Howard /Valerie Dyer  That the BCRTA Delegates’ Day and the AGM reports be accepted as distributed    Carried

8. Business Arising from the Floor  Liz Holme circulated a letter we received from the student we sponsor through Harambee

Following the meeting Kay Howard introduced Julie Trueman who gave a fascinating Powerpoint presentation entitled Return to Papunya. It detailed her experiences as a teacher in the Australian Outback in 1972-1973 and her subsequent return as a visitor. Julie’s talk was enjoyed by all!
